Pecan Bowl

This beautiful pecan bowl lends a new meaning to 'going to the woodshed'.  This bowl was turned from a piece of pecan that was rescued from a firewood pile in a friend's woodshed.  It was quite weathered which added to the spalting and the resulting splashes of color.  Ordinarily, pecan wood is an evenly colored honey tone.  This one is not.  It is one of those pieces that people will  just want to pick up and handle.

As with all our turned bowls, this bowl is not considered food safe.  Any spalted wood for that matter is not considered food safe (just to be on the safe side) even if it is well sealed in an appropriate finish.  This bowl is finished in an oil and urethane finish that brings out the beauty of the vibrant color and texture.  At the same time it forms a tough barrier that will keep it looking good for many years.  A light dusting or wiping with a damp cloth is all that is needed for normal care and maintenance.
