CraftId

A Whispered Images CraftId is a laser engraved signature used by artisans and craftspeople as a signature for their work.  It distinctively and uniquely connects the work with the artist.  CraftIds can be created in many sizes, shapes, materials, and designs.  Our standard CraftId is a 1" diameter medallion made from 1/8" birch plywood, standard wood veneer, or similar material.  The CraftId design can range from the standard "Hand Crafted by" with the artisan's name to custom artwork provided by or designed for the artisan to highlight the uniqueness of your creation.

• Why the standard one inch diameter?  Because woodworkers and other craftspeople find it convenient to create a shallow one inch diameter hole (usually with a Forstner, spade or similar bit for wood projects).   CraftIDs can be created to fit most any size you need.  They can also be made in custom shapes if that's what your piece or project needs.
  
• What materials might be used for a CraftID?  The standard material is 1/8" or 3mm thick birch plywood or any standard veneer.  We have created CraftIDs from many varieties of solid wood,  wood veneer, plywood, melamine, and mirrored glass.  We have created CraftIDs that are more than 1/4" thick made from woods such as maple burl, sycamore, magnolia, pine, poplar, cherry, walnut, ambrosia maple, box elder and more.  As long as we can engrave it (wood, glass, stone, solid surface materials, various metals) and you can embed or attach it to your art piece, then it can be a great CraftID.
• Can I create my own artwork? Yes.  We will gladly accept custom artwork created in Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks.  We can also accept JPEG, GIF, WMF and similar files depending on their size and resolution (minimum resolution for laser engraving is 300 dots per inch).  A setup fee may be involved depending on the time necessary to use the custom artwork.
• Can you customize my CraftIDs to my specifications?  Absolutely.  We enjoy the opportunity to create something special that will accent and complement your work.  From choices of fonts to completely custom artwork we will be happy to work with you to create just the right impression.
• Is there a minimum order quantity?  Yes, 100 pieces.  But, if you have a special application don't hesitate to ask.  The worst we can say is no, but most often we do better than that.
