What does it cost to custom laser engrave a MacBook?
MacBook custom laser engraving starts at $100.00 (US) plus return shipping and insurance. For complex designs, engraving multiple areas on the MacBook, and other complicating factors the price will be higher.

I'm ready to get started.  What do I need to do?

  • Step 1: Contact us to let us know what you want to do.
  • Step 2: Send us your graphic for approval.
  • Step 3: Once we've approved your graphic and agreed on a total price you'll need to send your payment (certified check or Paypal) and your MacBook .  We will laser engrave your MacBook and ship it back to you typically in one to two business days.

Do I have to send my MacBook to be custom laser engraved?
YES.  We're in Suwanee, GA, USA.  If you live in the metro Atlanta area you can bring us your MacBook.  Otherwise, you'll have to send us the MacBook.  But, don't bring it or send it until we've approved your graphic for engraving.  Email us your graphic in PDF, EPS, Illustrator, or Corel format.  We will review the graphic and make sure it is ready for engraving.  Once the graphic is approved and the price is set you can send us the MacBook.  We will plan to laser engrave your MacBook and send it back on its way to you (in the same box) typically in one to two business days.  Make sure you send the MacBook well padded and protected.  The original box should be best even if you are bringing it in person.

Do you need to boot the MacBook for custom laser engraving?
No.  You don't even need to send us the power adapter.  We don't need to turn on the MacBook at all.  We will only be opening it up to take a picture of the inside for proof of the as-received and as-shipped condition unless you want something laser engraved on the inside.

What if my MacBook is damaged in shipping?
We will typically photograph the MacBook immediately after opening the box.  We'll even photograph the box if there is any sign of external damage when we receive it.  We will pack it for the return trip the same as you packed it to send to us.  You should send it insured.  We will send it back insured (shipping insurance and shipping costs are extra). 

Can laser engraving damage my MacBook?
Laser engraving on the MacBook is a safe, non-invasive process.  Even at full power the typical CO2 laser engraver will not be able to penetrate the MacBook's aluminum skin.  As most lawyers will tell you - anything can happen.  But, we promise to take good care of your MacBook.

Will custom laser engraving make my MacBook unstealable?
No.  Some people wouldn't touch it because it is identifiable.  Other people might steal it because they liked the design.  You'll have to decide the benefits for yourself.

Can Whispered Images help prove my custom laser engraved MacBook is really mine?
We can't guarantee anything because you could get the same design engraved on another MacBook somewhere.  However, we typically do keep records of designs engraved by client so if you need help proving it is your MacBook we will certainly help if we can.

Does laser engraving my MacBook void my warranty?
You'll have to ask Apple that question.  Since laser engraving is a surface  effect it is our opinion that it should have no affect whatsoever on the warranty.  However, we can not promise and do not warrant in any way that laser engraving will not affect your product warranty.

What else does Whispered Images laser engrave?
We can laser engrave (or mark) a wide variety of items such as iPods, iPhones, Moleskine notebooks, most anything made of anodized aluminum (that will fit in the machine - 12" x 24" x 6" max), wine bottles and glasses, wood, leather, acrylic and lots of other stuff.
